Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Location: Prescott, Arizona
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide acute care nursing for patients undergoing cardiovascular and surgical services in a fast-paced progressive care unit. Care includes patients post-cardiac surgery, STEMI/NSTEMI, chronic ventilator support, alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, and renal disease.
Unit Details
- PCU with 14 beds (up to 20 with double occupancy)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1 RN to 3-4 patients depending on acuity
- Critical Care service line with hospitalist support
- Equipment includes Philips Cardiac Monitors, Telemetry, Welch Allyn Vital Signs Monitors, invasive monitoring devices, Medtronic Pacemakers, Cerner EMR, Pyxis medication dispenser, Zoll R series, Sigma Spectrum IV pumps, and Mistral Air Warming units
Schedule
- 12-hour shifts: 7 AM–7 PM or 7 PM–7 AM
- 3 shifts per week required (option for 4 shifts per week upon discussion)
- Two weekend shifts per pay period, nights included
- Floating to ICU preferred; float to Medical-Surgical/Telemetry required
Required Qualifications
- Active and in good standing Arizona RN license
- ACLS and BLS certification
- Minimum 1 year of PCU nursing experience
- Strong EKG knowledge and skills
- Experience with IV cardiac medication administration
- Skills with peritoneal dialysis, chronic ventilators, chest tubes, epidural catheters, PCA pumps, transvenous pacing, arterial or venous sheath care/pulling
Additional Requirements
- Must pass dysrhythmia exam with a minimum score of 80% within two attempts prior to contract signing
- Radius restriction: Cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN within the past year at any facility associated with certain healthcare systems within 50 miles
- Dress code: Navy scrubs and business-appropriate hair color

- Fast-paced cardiac and cardiac surgery care environment
- Patients include post-cath lab intervention and 2-3 days post open heart surgery
- Care for STEMI, NSTEMI, chronic ventilator patients, alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, new BiPAP/CPAP patients, thoracotomies, and renal disease
