Registered Nurse (Med Surg Ortho Trauma)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, day and night coverage available
Schedule:

• Day Shift: 06:30 AM – 07:00 PM
• Night Shift: 06:30 PM – 07:00 AM
• Typically every other weekend required; schedules posted 6 weeks in advance
• 2-3 holidays required between Thanksgiving and New Year's
• Limited block scheduling available for travelers

Unit Details

• Department: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry / Orthopedics (4th Floor North & South)
• Number of Beds: 55
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio approximately 1:10-20
• Telemetry Techs interpret monitors; RNs should have telemetry awareness but do not read strips independently
• Charge Nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
• Mechanical lifts available in every other patient room
• Patient population includes joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, orthopedic trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, failure to thrive
• Common drips RNs titrate: Heparin, lidocaine, ketamine
• Common drips/set rate: PCA pumps

Orientation & Training

• Unit-specific orientation: 2 days
• RN skills exam during orientation (open book, must pass with 90% or higher)

Requirements & Policies

• Must have current RN license
• BLS (AHA) required; ACLS preferred
• Driver’s license required at time of submission (used to verify candidate is outside 50-mile radius)
• Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with certain large healthcare systems within 50 miles
• Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
• Floating required to other medical-surgical units as needed
• Focus on hourly rounding and responsiveness
• Successful nurses on this unit are team players, have good attendance, are friendly, compassionate, and patient-focused
• Patient population includes diverse cultures, including Spanish, Karen, and Burmese speakers

Additional Notes

• Travelers will be scheduled; some flexibility with block scheduling
• Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
