OB/GYN Ultrasound Tech (Outpatient Imaging Center)

Location: Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

• Work in a busy OB/GYN outpatient imaging center as part of a team with other sonographers and Maternal-Fetal Medicine physicians.
• Perform a variety of ultrasound procedures including:

  • 1st trimester OB scans
  • Anatomy scans (including detailed Level II exams)
  • OB follow-ups
  • Biophysical profiles (BPPs)
  • Umbilical artery (UA) and middle cerebral artery (MCA) Dopplers
  • Nuchal translucency scans
  • Multiples
  • GYN exams (transvaginal and transabdominal)
  • Saline infusion sonography
  • Ultrasound-guided IUD placement and removals
• Assist physicians during invasive procedures requiring ultrasound guidance (e.g., amniocentesis, D&C, twin deliveries).
• Prepare and explain procedures to patients prior to exams.
• Create and prepare ultrasound reports using digital reporting systems.

Equipment & Systems

• GE Voluson E10 and GE Voluson P8 ultrasound machines
• AS OB/GYN Software for digital report generation and image archiving
• Epic Electronic Medical Records system

Required Skills & Experience

• Must have ARDMS certification, specifically ARDMS in OB/GYN.
• Minimum of 4 years of Obstetrics experience OR 1 year of Maternal-Fetal Medicine experience (whichever is higher).
• BLS certification required.
• Certified Nuchal Translucency Scan (NTQR) via FMF certificate is preferred but not required.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work as a team player.
• Open to learning provider protocols.

Schedule & Work Environment

• Varying day shifts ranging from 8 to 9 hours Monday through Friday OR four 10-hour days (6:45 am – 5:15 pm).
• Day off varies depending on staffing needs.
• Outreach services require 10 to 12-hour days with travel alongside the team by rental car and/or airplane.
• Rotation to hospital labor and delivery floor (7 am – 5:30 pm) to assist with triage, in-patients, and OR ultrasound-guided procedures.
• Work alongside a preceptor for at least 1 week (longer if needed) before working independently.
• Dress code: charcoal gray scrubs.

Unit/Department Details

• 8 ultrasound rooms within the Women’s Ultrasound Diagnostic Center.
• Accredited by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).
• Team includes 11 board-certified Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
• Procedures include advanced prenatal diagnostic and interventional ultrasounds, fetal echocardiograms, biophysical profiles, color imaging, Doppler studies, and 3D ultrasound.

Prior Travel Experience

• No explicit requirement for prior travel experience mentioned.

Certifications Required
