Job Opportunity: OR Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Position in a 4-bed outpatient Surgery Center with a wide variety of cases, emphasizing Orthopedic skills.
• Comfortable with scrubbing and circulating in the OR.
• Recovery room experience preferred but not required.
• Most patients are outpatient and go home the same day; some surgical patients may require transfer to the floor for overnight stay.
• Main OR has 10 beds.
• Exposure to all service lines and a broad range of surgical cases including:

  • General surgery (bowel, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, hernia, gastrectomy, organ procurements, thyroid, trachs, I&Ds)
  • Laparoscopic procedures (chole, appy, hysterectomy, hernia, colon, PEG)
  • Gynecology (c-section, hysterectomy, laser, salpingo-oophorectomy, tubal ligation)
  • GU/Cysto (circumcision, cystoscopy, hypospadias, lithotripsy, nephrectomy, orchiectomy, penile implant, prostate, TURP/TURB)
  • Orthopedics (scopes, external fixation, closed reduction, total knees/hips, ORIF shoulder/clavicle/humerus/radius/ulna/fingers/hand, acetabulum, pelvis, femur, tib/fib, ankle, foot)
  • Neurosurgery (ACDF, burr holes, craniotomy, tumor resection, laminectomy, shunts, EVD)
  • Plastics (trauma plastics, facial fractures, skin grafts, flaps)
  • Eye (enucleation, vitrectomy, globe rupture)
  • ENT (ethmoidectomy, sinus surgery, laryngectomy, tonsil/adenoid, myringotomy, mastoidectomy, tympanoplasty, stapedectomy, nasal polypectomy, laryngoscopy)
  • Thoracic (hiatal hernia, lobectomy, thoracotomy, lung wedge resection)
  • Endoscopy (bronchoscopy, EGD, colonoscopy)
• Pediatric cases in emergency situations.
• Use of advanced technology including DaVinci Robot, stealth, O-arm, holmium lasers.

Required Qualifications

• Registered Nurse (RN) license for Nebraska.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Must have Level 1 trauma experience.
• Experience in all service lines is required.
• Must pass a skills exam with a minimum score of 90% during orientation.
• Driver’s license required to verify candidate location within 50 miles radius.
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas.

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: OR RN with Level 1 trauma experience.

Scheduling & Work Details

• Shifts: 8 and 12-hour shifts available (0630-1500, 0630-1900, 1830-0700).
• Self-scheduling with cyclic schedule based on department needs.

  • Weeknight call: 1 four-hour call after a shift weekly.
  • Weekend call: Approximately every 5 weeks, from Friday evening to Sunday evening, alternating between two call teams every 12 hours.
  • Holiday call: Rotation between in-house and second call teams.
• No floating outside of the OR.
• Orientation: 1 week of unit/department-specific orientation.
• Dress code: Green scrubs provided by the hospital.

Additional Notes

• Candidates may not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity.
• Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start for this 13-week contract.
• EMR system used: EPIC.
• Manager/Charge Nurse and OR techs available on each shift.
