Job Opportunity: Critical Care Nurse (ICU) - Peoria, Illinois
Unit Information
- Specialty: High Acuity Unit (Critical Care)
- Unit Beds: 8
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Scheduling: Rotating weekends and holidays; weekend every other week and to fill holes
- Floating: ICU RNs may float to Medical-Surgical unit
- Dress Code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed in any color
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Respiratory failure, post-surgical care, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
- Patient Care Requirements:
- PEG tube care and feedings
- CVC/PICC/Midline line care
- Tracheostomy care
- Caring for sedated and ventilated patients
- Titrating vasopressors, sedation, and pain control drips
Clinical Skills & Certifications
- Required Certifications: BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA)
- Experience Required:
- Managing ventilators and respiratory equipment (vent, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow)
- Troubleshooting respiratory equipment
- Titrating drips such as Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, Dopamine, Cardizem, and other ICU-level drips
- Charge Nurse: No charge nurse assignment; House Supervisor available 24/7
- Support Staff: No nurse aides or patient care techs; nurses provide primary care
- Physician Coverage: Hospitalist/Intensivist on-site during day shift; tele-health MD available after hours
- Respiratory Therapist: Available in-house 24/7
- Telemetry: Phillips hard-wired telemetry monitors in each room; telemetry tech monitors centrally; RNs read their own strips
Orientation & Training
- Orientation: 12 non-billable hours classroom orientation plus 2 unit shifts (3 x 12-hour shifts with preceptor)
Additional Information
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Drug-Free Campus: Negative drug screen required for all panels
- Licensing: Active Illinois nursing license or proof of application required
- Call/Standby: No current call or standby requirement (subject to change)
- Time Off: Requested time off must be submitted
- Local Placement: Accepts clinicians living within 50 miles radius
This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses comfortable with high-acuity patients requiring complex care and titration of multiple drips in a critical care setting.
