ICU (Intensive Care Unit) RN

Overview

• Location: Chandler, Arizona
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights, 12 hours
• Hours per week: 36
• Unit: Surgical ICU - Trauma Neuro Surgery; Medical ICU - Medical Cardiac + Overflow
• Beds: 32 beds; 36 Medical Cardiac beds + 12 overflow beds

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license for Arizona or compact license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NIHSS
• 3 years of recent ICU experience
• ICU experience must include either neuro or CV
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam with 2 max attempts
• Must pass a Sim Lab on Day 1 of orientation

Preferred Qualifications

• TNCC
• Level 1 experience
• Neuro experience
• Prior experience in a similar-size ICU

Unit Details

• Surgical ICU - Trauma Neuro Surgery

  • Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2, 1:1
  • RN titrates drips
  • Charge nurse does not take patients
  • No nurse aids on the unit; used for sitters and Health Unit Secretary support
  • Hospitalist or intensivist in house 24/7
  • RT in ICU 24/7
  • No monitor techs; RN interprets own strips
  • Self-scheduling
  • May need to float to tele with a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio
  • Scrub color: Navy
  • Orientation: 1-2 days

Scheduling and Assignment Notes

• Typically every other weekend is required, with the possibility of up to 3 weekends per month if the unit is busy
• May have 1 holiday off during the assignment
• No additional call or standby shifts required
• May be low censused up to 3 times per contract
• First-time travelers are accepted
• Must be willing to float to the sister ICU and tele as needed
• Radius rule: 50 miles
• Not eligible if currently full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year
