Role: ED Observation RN

Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week

Unit details

Setting: ER/Trauma Center ER Observation
Beds/trauma bays: 8–16
Patient volume: 8–16 patients per day
Ratio: 4:1
Primary assignment: Boarding patients waiting for a room in the hospital

Required qualifications

BLS certification
Washington RN license
Experience with Med/Surg Telemetry
Must not have been full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and/or Dignity, within the past year

Unit operations

Telemetry: RNs monitor their own telemetry
Transport: House transporters available
Phlebotomy: Lab draw
Security: In-house security
Charge nurse/house supervisor: Yes
Nurse aides/paramedics/patient sitters: Yes

Schedule and logistics

Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday requirement: None
Call/standby: Standby required
Floating: May float to similar floors and throughout Region Two if needed
Orientation: 1 day
Scrub color: Navy blue

Pros

Great schedule, got sent home early a lot, living in Tacoma is easy, commuting to work is a breeze, parking is free in the parking garage

Cons

Expected to float between main OR and surgery center. Cost of living is high.
