Registered Nurse (NICU) - Night Shift
Location: Renton, Washington
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, typically 3 shifts per week)
Schedule: 4-week rotating schedules; weekend and possible holiday coverage required
Orientation: 1-2 shifts specific to unit (1900-0730)
Unit & Patient Care Details
- Level 2 NICU with 20 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on acuity and staffing
- No nurse aides on unit
- Neonatologist available in-house 24/7; ARNP/PA not available
- Telemetry monitors present; nurses interpret strips
- Floating may include pediatric patients (NICU graduates), patients up to 12 months old, or 1:1 sitter duties for behavioral health patients postpartum
- Dress code: Royal Blue scrubs
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Extremely premature and premature infants (gestations down to 32 weeks or >1500 grams)
- Conditions include bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), feeding intolerance, respiratory support needs, sepsis/meningitis, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS/ESC), and hyperbilirubinemia
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2+ years NICU experience (firm requirement)
- Experience caring for neonates requiring nasal cannula (NC), high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), CPAP, NAVA, and conventional ventilator support
- Ability to manage feeding pumps
- Experience with titrating drips including blood pressure medications, TPN/D10, and insulin
- Must be able to function as charge nurse or house supervisor when needed
Equipment & Technology
- Ventilators: High-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV), high-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV), conventional ventilators
- Respiratory support: CPAP, HFNC, nasal cannula
- Electronic Health Record: 100% Epic experience required
Certifications & Licensure
- Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
Additional Requirements & Notes
- No travel nurses with license issues related to medication diversion or endangerment will be accepted; such issues will result in immediate contract cancellation
- Call or standby may be required depending on unit needs
- Must be able to titrate drips as part of nursing duties
