Registered Nurse (NICU) - Night Shift
Location: Renton, Washington
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week)
Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 4-week schedules
Orientation: 1-2 shifts specific to unit (1900-0730)
Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs
Unit & Patient Population
- Level 2 NICU with 20 beds
- Patient acuity ratios range from 1:1 to 1:3 depending on staffing and acuity
- Common patient diagnoses: extremely premature/premature infants, bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD), hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), feeding intolerance, respiratory support needs, sepsis/meningitis, neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS/ESC), hyperbilirubinemia
- Care for gestations down to 32 weeks or infants >1500 grams
- Ability to care for NICU graduates up to 12 months of age when floating to pediatrics
- Neonatologist available in-house 24/7; no ARNP/PA coverage
Required Skills & Experience
- Minimum 2 years of NICU experience (firm requirement)
- Experience with neonatal respiratory support equipment: nasal cannula (NC), high flow nasal cannula (HFNC), CPAP, NAVA, conventional ventilators, high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV), high-frequency jet ventilation (HFJV)
- Ability to use feeding pumps
- Experience titrating drips including blood pressure medications, TPN/D10, and insulin
- Nurses read telemetry strips on unit
- Must be able to float to pediatrics and provide 1:1 sitter care for behavioral health patients postpartum
Certifications & Licenses
- Current RN license required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- EPIC electronic medical record experience 100% required
Additional Requirements & Notes
- No travel nurses with license issues related to medication diversion or endangerment will be accepted; such issues will result in immediate contract cancellation
- Weekend work may be required every weekend
- Holiday shifts possible, depending on contract and scheduling needs
- Call or standby may be required; if not needed, nurse will be placed on standby
- No nurse aides on unit
