Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg Unit

Location: Uniontown, Pennsylvania
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: 1W MedSurg (28 all-private beds)
• Patient types: Mainly post-surgical and orthopedic patients
• May be assigned to both "clean" and "dirty" (COVID-positive) patients simultaneously; comfort with this is required
• Telemetry patients monitored remotely by a monitor technician on a different floor (no direct telemetry monitors on unit)
• Common diagnoses include pneumonia, dialysis, palliative care, hospice, end-of-life care, and low volume inpatient chemotherapy (administered by director/manager)

Work Schedule & Shifts

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (Days)
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday) plus 2 Fridays per schedule (often grouped Fri-Sat-Sun)
• Self-scheduling and blocked schedules allowed if unit needs are met
• Hours per week: Approximately 36

Staffing & Ratios

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:6-7
• Clinical Manager acts as charge nurse and nurse manager Monday through Saturday (takes patients only if census >24)
• Nights staffed with a resource nurse who takes a full patient assignment
• Two CNAs on day shifts; no CNAs on nights

Orientation & Floating

• One shift orientation with a preceptor specific to the floor
• Floating only to other MedSurg units

Clinical & Care Details

• Drips: Heparin and possibly morphine sulfate for comfort measures; no cardiac drips
• Ventilation: Bipap, Cpap, High Flow managed by Respiratory Therapy
• No nurse’s read strips required
• Scrub color: Navy blue (jackets must also be navy blue if worn)

Required Certifications & Qualifications

• Current RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for submissions
• Candidates must provide a copy of an unexpired driver’s license
• Any professional license issues must be disclosed at time of submission

Additional Notes

• Work holidays as part of permanent staff holiday rotation
• Must be comfortable caring for COVID-positive patients alongside non-COVID patients on the same unit

This position is ideal for RNs with MedSurg experience who are comfortable with a mixed patient population including COVID-positive cases and who can work a structured weekend and holiday schedule.
