Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
- BLS certification
- NIHSS certification
- Level 1 trauma experience
- Previous travel experience
- Prior experience working on a dedicated neuro unit
- Heparin drip experience
Unit Details
- Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit
- 54 beds
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4-5 on days, 1:5-6 on nights
- Common patient types include stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, neuroscience, and some medical overflow
Responsibilities
- Titrate drips as needed
- Float in rotation with the rest of the staff
- May float outside the unit during urgent need and work only within demonstrated competencies
Additional Details
- House-wide telemetry; nurses do not read strips
- Charge nurse and house supervisor are on duty 24/7
- Non-billable orientation: 12 hours
- Unit orientation includes 2 days with educator and preceptor support
- Local placements within 50 miles are accepted, with adjusted local rates
