Overview

• Travel contract in Long Beach, California
• 13-week assignment
• 12-hour day/evening shifts
• 36 hours per week

Unit Details

• ER
• Fast track: 5 beds
• 26 trauma bays
• 40–160 patients per day
• Level 2 trauma center
• Adults and Peds
• STEMI receiving center
• CVA receiving center

Required Qualifications

• Active BLS
• Active ACLS
• Active PALS
• CA License
• 2 full years of experience
• 3–5 years of previous ED experience
• Available to work 2 of the 3 major holidays

Schedule

• Every other weekend
• Holidays rotate with core staff
• 12-hour shifts: 0630-1900, 0730-2000, 0930-2200, 1130-2400, 1430-0300, 1830-0700
• 12 hr mids with 10a start time

Clinical Environment

• Ratios: 3:1, 4:1
• Charge nurse available with no patient assignment
• No monitor techs; nurses must read and interpret their own strips
• RNs do all lab draws
• Vents present
• RT 24/7
• Pharmacy 24/7
• No floating

Additional Notes

• Cerner - FirstNet EMR
• Nurse aides and EMAs assist with sitter care, patient care, EKGs, splints, and first aid assistance
• 1 security staff member always in the waiting area
• Education Across Lifespan Trauma module orientation with supervisor and preceptor
• Common patient population includes minor complaints to trauma, homeless patients, and patients with drug abuse-related needs
