Surgical Tech First Assist

Overview

• Surgical Tech First Assist role in Paducah, Kentucky.
• 26-week contract.
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8-hour shifts, 0600–1430.
• Call: every other day and every other weekend.

Required Qualifications

• Valid First Assist Technician license in Kentucky.
• First Assist Technician experience within the last year.
• 1 year of First Assist Technician experience.
• BLS.
• NBSTSA Certified Surgical First Assist (CSFA).
• Technical diploma from a surgical technologist program or comparable military training, plus completion of a Surgical First Assistant Program.

Preferred Qualifications

• 6 to 12 months’ experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgeon as the chief assistant in the operating room.
• Scrub into cases and help set up sterile supplies and instruments.
• Maintain the sterile field and assist with sterile draping and patient positioning.
• Assist the circulating RN as needed.
• Pass instruments and assist the physician during procedures.
• May clamp, cauterize, tie, and apply ligating clamps, hemostatic clips, and hemostatic agents.
• May apply running or interrupted sutures.
• Assist in cardiothoracic procedures and other surgical procedures, including saphenous vein harvesting after completing an approved course.
• Perform point-of-use cleaning of instruments and support post-case cleaning and instrument transport.
• Notify the appropriate leader of damaged instruments and ensure the surgical suite is disinfected and ready for the next procedure.
