Medical Lab Scientist

Location: Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Clinical - Allied - Local
Shift: 3rd Shift
Hours: 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week (7 consecutive 10-hour shifts followed by 7 days off)
Contract Length: 17 weeks

Job Summary

• Perform waived, moderate, and high complexity testing on patient specimens.
• Interpret and correlate test data using critical thinking and technical knowledge.
• Participate in teaching and training students, new employees, and medical residents.
• Conduct problem resolution, equipment maintenance, reagent preparation, and test result data entry.
• Complete all required competency assessments timely and successfully.

Key Responsibilities

• Accurately and efficiently perform all assigned testing following established protocols.
• Recognize and investigate abnormal or inconsistent test results; notify leadership promptly.
• Prioritize and multitask to complete assignments on time; maintain a clean and organized workstation.
• Work independently and collaboratively within the team; communicate delays or issues to leadership.
• Perform and document quality control procedures and corrective actions as needed.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments, perform troubleshooting, and document issues.
• Actively participate in training and continuing education activities.
• Investigate problems thoroughly and escalate unresolved issues appropriately.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medical Laboratory Science (formerly Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology).
• Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) from one of the following:

  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Medical Lab Scientist, with experience within the last year.
• Experience in molecular testing, hematology, bench chemistry, and phlebotomy.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with molecular testing, coagulation, hematology, bench chemistry, and phlebotomy.

Additional Information

• Work schedule involves 7 consecutive 10-hour shifts followed by 7 days off, totaling 70 hours in a 2-week period.
• Must be able to adapt to fluctuating workloads and assist with additional duties as needed.
