Surgical Technologist/Scrub Tech

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Variable day shifts on General Team (7:00 PM - 3:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 40 hours guaranteed


Job Description

  • Work on a General Surgical Technologist team supporting 21 ORs with multiple specialties including General Surgery, GYN, Urology, Plastics, ENT, and strong GI cases.
  • Responsible for setting up operative suites, ensuring case carts are fully stocked, scrubbing surgical cases, and turning over rooms for multiple procedures daily (40-60 cases per day).
  • Must be flexible, willing to assist with downtime tasks, and help train new hires.
  • May be required to float to nearby facilities if needed.
  • On-call responsibilities include 6-8 weeknight calls and 1-2 weekend calls during the contract, with a 30-minute response time to be ready in the OR.
  • Weekend and holiday call rotation applies.
  • Must have own vehicle due to on-call requirements (cannot rely on rideshare services).

Required Qualifications

  • Surgical Technologist with a minimum of 4 years of experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel assignment.
  • Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients.
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or certification from NBSTSA or NCCT.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Graduation from a surgical technologist program resulting in an Associate Degree or Certificate, providing knowledge of surgical standards and practices.

Additional Information

  • Radius rule: Contractors must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility.
  • Contract includes 36 hours of low census unbillable hours; travelers may be on call during these hours and will receive call-back pay if called in.
  • Guaranteed hours per week except during holidays when the unit is closed.
  • Flu and COVID vaccination required during flu season; unvaccinated travelers must wear a mask at all times per facility policy. Non-compliance may result in corrective action.
