Pediatric Dietitian (Travel/Contract)

Job Description

• Inpatient dietitian role primarily on Eating Disorder Unit, General/Surgical pediatric units.
• Work includes PICU step-down and post-op surgical pediatric patients, involving nutrition support such as GTube feeds and TPN.
• May also cover pediatric medical or oncology units with similar workflow and expectations.
• Flexible schedule with 3 shifts per week, 8 hours each.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) license in California.
• Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), with experience within the last year.
• Prior experience working in a children’s hospital setting.

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Proof of eligibility for employment (I9).
• Valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or passport).
• Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including SSN trace, education verification, and national databases.
• State license primary source verification completed prior to start and updated every 3 months.
• Negative 9-panel drug test within 60 days of start (instant drug screens not accepted).
• Immunizations and health screenings:

  • Tdap vaccine required (TD or Dtap not accepted).
  • IGRA or 2-step PPD TB test within 60 days of start (or valid chest X-ray if positive history).
  • Annual TB questionnaire.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if titers low/negative.
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, declination, or proof of 3-shot series.
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
• Mask fit testing required prior to start for certain units (includes PICU, Med/Surg, ED, OR, Respiratory, and others).
• In-person eye exam and color blind exam (Ishihara test) required prior to start.
• COVID vaccines preferred but not required.

Orientation & Training Requirements

• Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to starting clinical work (approximately 6-8 hours).
• Modules assigned by Friday before orientation; access begins Monday at 8 AM.
• Must complete modules by specified deadlines or risk cancellation.
• Facility-specific orientation includes signing job description, non-disclosure agreement, safety manual, dress code acknowledgment, and other compliance documents.
• Professional photo required for badge issuance.
• Badge pickup and security screening on first shift.
• Must complete Pyxis Access Request Form prior to start.

Additional Notes

• Two supervisor references required (charge RN or floor supervisor acceptable). References may be pending at start if necessary.
• Verification of at least 2 previous employers covering up to 7 years of relevant experience required prior to start.
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam may be required as per pediatric specialty standards.
• Fingernail hygiene policy strictly enforced: no artificial nails allowed; natural nails must be maintained at ¼ inch or less.
• Flexible start dates available: May 4, May 18, June 1, June 15.

This position is ideal for a Registered Dietitian with pediatric inpatient experience, especially in children’s hospital settings, who is comfortable managing complex nutrition support cases including surgical and critical care pediatric patients.
