Job Summary
As a Medical Surgical RN, you will be the primary nurse responsible for:
- Managing nursing care from admission to discharge
- Ensuring patient safety, comfort, hygiene, and protection
- Performing disease prevention and restorative measures
- Responding to medical and environmental emergencies
Job Duties
- Provide competent, compassionate, and cost-effective patient care following hospital policies and nursing standards
- Plan and coordinate care delivery to maximize efficiency and safety
- Prioritize and provide care in routine and complex situations
- Serve as liaison between nursing and medical staff
- Coordinate involvement of patient, physician, family, and health team members
- Initiate and direct emergency interventions calmly and competently
- Administer treatments, medications, and nursing skills timely
- Maintain current knowledge of patient status and communicate significant changes to physicians
- Conduct initial and ongoing patient/family assessments including biophysical, psychosocial, spiritual, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning factors
- Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical Surgical and Telemetry nursing, with at least some experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience working with neonate patients

Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender, education verification, and FACIS Level 3 screening
- Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS screenings
- Education verification required (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred)
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit test within 1 year, renewed annually (with accommodations for religious exemptions or failed tests)
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- TB test or chest x-ray (annual renewal)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B vaccination or declination
- Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Seasonal flu vaccination during flu season (Nov-April) or signed declination
- Respiratory safety clearance annually (not required for some non-clinical roles)
- Negative drug test within 6 months

- Floating may include other campuses within the hospital system with shuttle transportation provided
- Flexibility and adaptability are expected for travel nurses in this role
