Job Summary
- Provide professional nursing care to surgical patients in the operating room.
- Manage and coordinate nursing care, provide specialized treatment, and supervise ancillary nursing personnel.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team.
- Scrub or circulate surgical cases following AORN standards.
- Handle emergency or crisis situations and work with patients under various conditions.
- Assist with lifting and positioning patients over 200 pounds.
- OSHA Risk Category I (High Risk).
Work Schedule
- On call as needed.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
Required Qualifications
Licensure & Certifications
- Valid RN license in California.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification.
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification.
Education
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of nursing experience.
- Minimum 1 year of travel nursing experience.
- Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year.
- Specialized experience in General, Orthopedic, Vascular, Trauma, Neurology, or other surgical specialties.
- Specific experience in Orthopedics, Vascular Surgery, Trauma, and Neurology preferred.
Job Duties
- Plan, manage, and coordinate nursing care for surgical patients.
- Provide specialized care and treatment in the operating room.
- Direct and supervise ancillary nursing personnel.
- Scrub or circulate during surgical procedures.
- Maintain professional nursing standards per AORN guidelines.
- Ability to work with bodily fluids and handle emergency situations.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year background check required within 6 months of start.
- Annual updates for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS Level 3 screening.
- Education verification required (Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred).
- Sex offender search required within 90 days of start.
- Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana due to CA law).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually.
- TB screening and questionnaire required annually.
- Immunizations and/or titers required for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (series or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30).
Additional Requirements
Must complete various facility-specific documents and attestations prior to start, including:
- Standards of Business Conduct
- Code of Conduct
- Vendor Training
- Regulatory Orientation
- Confidentiality Agreement
- Abuse Policy
- Conditional Offer of Employment Attestation (no conditional clearances allowed)
- Religious exemption forms if applicable.
Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps.
Two professional references required (Aya Healthcare requirement).
Physical & Work Environment
- Ability to discriminate fine sounds.
- Frequent contact with bodily fluids and substances.
- Exposure to unpredictable and emergency situations.
- Must assist with lifting and positioning patients over 200 pounds.
This position is ideal for experienced OR Registered Nurses with prior travel experience who are comfortable working in a high-risk surgical environment and meeting comprehensive compliance and immunization requirements.
