Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Jackson, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements

  • Must hold a valid California RN license
  • Minimum 3 years of nursing experience (prior travel experience not required)
  • Certifications required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • Advanced Fetal Monitoring
  • Work schedule includes every other weekend
  • EPIC experience preferred
  • Floating duties may include sitter or helping hands roles if census is low and other departments need assistance

Certifications & Licenses

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA or ARC only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): AHA or ARC only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): AHA/AAP only, must be Instructor or Advanced Provider Course
  • CCRN (Critical Care RN): Verify by position
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Valid for 4 years
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Typically required for Labor & Delivery; AWHONN certification valid for 2 years
  • State License: Must provide copy and primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days for RN
  • Other certifications may be required depending on position (e.g., IV Certification, Management of Assaultive Behavior, NIH Stroke Certification, CPI)

Background Checks & Screening

  • 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including:
    • Social Security Trace with all aliases
    • County searches for last 7 years of residence/work/school
    • Nationwide Sex Offender Search (within 90 days of start)
    • Education verification (highest level achieved)
    • FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, updated annually
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to CA law)
  • Employment history verification: Full 7 years required with no gaps over 30 days; explanations required for gaps

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (must clear candidate for work)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (exceptions apply)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days, renewed annually
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titers or vaccination series with boosters as needed
    • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, vaccination series, or signed declination
    • Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters as needed
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start
  • Color blindness exam if applicable (in-person exam only)
  • Respiratory safety clearance required prior to start, renewed annually

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Unit-specific competency exams (e.g., Telemetry for ICU nurses)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required for some units

Facility-Specific Documents & Orientation

  • Candidates must review and sign:
    • Job description
    • Standards of Business Conduct
    • Conditional Offer of Employment Attestation
    • General Regulatory Orientation for Contracted Workers
    • Vendor Training (2024 and 2025 versions depending on contract date)
    • Code of Conduct (2024 and 2025 versions depending on contract date)
    • Overpayment Refund Policy (2024 and 2025 versions depending on contract date)
  • TB Screening Questionnaire required within 90 days of start and annually thereafter
  • Religious exemption forms required if applicable for PAPR or vaccine exemptions

Additional Notes

  • References: 2 professional references required for clinical/allied/per diem acute care candidates (within 3 years)
  • Employment application must include full 7 years of work history with no gaps
  • Floating to other departments may be required based on census and staffing needs
