Registered Nurse PCU

Location: Lexington, Kentucky Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: 14 weeks Shift: Night (3x12 hours), 19:00 to 7:30 Hours: 12 hours per day, 36 hours per week

Unit and Assignment

• Head, Neck, and Plastics unit
• Floating required
• Weekend coverage required
• Will be expected to work 3 of 5 winter holidays
• Local travelers within 100 miles are not accepted

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Kentucky
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
• PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
• Telemetry experience
• ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association or RQI
• BLS issued by American Heart Association or RQI
• NIH Stroke Certification (NIHSS), from an approved testing organization
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching hospital experience
• Electronic medical record experience

Competencies and Exams

• Medication/pharmacology competency exam (80% or higher, within 1 year of start)
• Pediatric medication exam for pediatric RNs (NICU must complete the RN pharmacology exam)
• Unit-specific competency exam (80% or modified Angoff, whichever is higher, renewed annually)
• Core Parts I, II, and III (80% passing score, updated annually)
• Conscious sedation competency exam (updated annually)
• RN math ability competency exam (80% minimum)
• Color blind testing (80% passing score)

Health and Background Requirements

• Background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
• EPLS/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Education verification
• Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated annually
• Employment verification for 7 years; gaps longer than 30 days must be explained
• Two supervisor references verified within 6 months of start; manager or supervisor preferred; charge RN accepted only if they supervised the candidate directly
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually, signed by an MD, NP, or PA
• Fit mask testing within 1 year, updated annually
• Tdap within 10 years of start
• Negative TB test (PPD or TSPOT/QuantiFERON) within 1 year, renewed annually; chest X-ray within 5 years if history of positive TB
• Measles (rubeola), mumps, and rubella immunity (positive titer or 2 MMR vaccines)
• Hepatitis B immunity (positive titer, 3-dose series, or declination)
• Varicella immunity (positive titer or 2 vaccines)
• Drug screen within 1 year, updated annually (rapid drug screen not acceptable)
• 2026-27 flu vaccine required for 9/21 prestarts and later, or an approved exemption; must wear a mask on shift
• COVID vaccine series or an approved medical or religious exemption, updated annually
• COVID booster preferred, not required
