Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Shreveport, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Work Schedule
- Shift: Day shift, Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
- Hours per week: 40 hours
- Weekend Requirement: 1 weekend every 6 weeks
- Call: Possible call shifts, which may include weekends (details discussed during interview)
- Holiday Coverage: As needed
Job Description & Expectations
- Upon starting, you may be assigned to an Emergency Team with an expectation to stay onsite until the event passes or be part of a relief team during emergency events.
- Candidates should be comfortable with emergency event assignments as directed by the unit manager.
- General Operating Room and Trauma experience preferred.
- Accepts first-time travel nurses.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
- Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year required.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Certifications (as applicable to specialty/unit)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only; renewal required if expiring within 30 days of start.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for certain critical care specialties; check unit description.
- Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI may be required depending on unit assignment; verify with program management if unclear.
Background & Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
- Sex offender search required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
- Education verification of highest level completed.
- NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start.
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start confirming good health.
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months; annual updates required. For positive TB tests, additional documentation required.
- Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B
- Varicella
- Tdap vaccine required for select areas (ED, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby, NICU).
- Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31).
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; must be initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance.
Additional Requirements
- Photo for badge: Full color, passport-style photo taken within last 6 months with plain background.
- Skills checklist updated annually.
- Employment application/resume required with 7 years of employment history and explanations for gaps.
- Competency exam specific to specialty required within 1 year prior to start, minimum 80% score, updated annually.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification may be required depending on unit; must be renewed annually.
- Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
