Registered Nurse – Oncology (Med Surg/Telemetry)

Position Overview

Seeking an experienced Oncology Nurse to provide comprehensive care to adult and geriatric patients with cancers such as endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical. The unit focuses on chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), infection prevention, and patient falls management.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver direct patient care to oncology patients, addressing physical and emotional needs.
• Administer chemotherapy and monitor for adverse reactions.
• Participate in clinical trials, including data collection and documentation.
• Perform specialized procedures like brachytherapy and neobladder care.
• Implement infection prevention protocols and manage patient safety.
• Monitor telemetry readings, interpret dysrhythmias, and respond to patient condition changes.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary and rapid response teams.
• Manage feeding tubes, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line care.
• Use EPIC electronic charting for accurate documentation of assessments and interventions.

Work Schedule

• 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights (day shift: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM; night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM).
• Typically 36 hours per week (3 shifts).
• Staffing ratios generally 1:4, may adjust to 1:5 based on unit needs.
• Weekend shifts vary based on unit requirements.
• No set or blocked scheduling requests.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
• Oncology nursing experience.
• Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system.

Background and Compliance Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881).
• Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
• State license verification within 30 days of start.
• 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leader).
• Employment application and skills checklist required.
• Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending.

Certifications and Competencies

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start (with remediation process if needed).
• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start.
• Unit-specific competency exams may be required.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required depending on unit (check with recruiter).
• Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
• Stroke education (BEFAST) continuing education may be required depending on unit assignment.
• NIH Stroke Certification may be required within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years for certain units.

Health and Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
• Fit mask test annually for inpatient/patient-facing roles (3M 1860/1870+ or Halyard Duckbill masks accepted).
• Tdap vaccination (adult dose after age 11/12) required; declination not accepted for those working with infants or pregnant patients.
• Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. Annual TB questionnaire required.
• 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for measles, mumps, and rubella; boosters required if low titers.
• Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted).
• Varicella immunity via 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation.
• Seasonal flu vaccine or declination with mask-wearing during flu season (10/1–3/31).
• COVID-19 vaccination recommended but not required.

• Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but may change based on staffing needs.
• No guaranteed fixed shifts; flexibility required for day/night rotation.
