ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Fort Lauderdale, FL
Job Summary
- Position: ICU Registered Nurse (RN)
- Unit: Primary trauma and stroke unit
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Patient ratio: 2:1 or 1:1
- Float and holiday shifts as needed
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Experience
- Minimum 3 years recent critical care experience with acute and chronically ill patients
- Experience in trauma and neuro ICU preferred
- Charge RN and Neuro ICU experience preferred
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Active Florida RN license or Compact license
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (AHA or ARC)
- NIH Stroke Certification (AHA, Apex, Blue Cloud, or equivalent) – must have at time of application
- Degree from an accredited school or institution approved by Florida Board of Nursing
- Must have 2 years recent acute care experience (consecutive within past 24 months in a US hospital) if degree is not from an accredited school
Required Skills and Competencies
- Epic electronic health record experience required
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
- Annual skills checklist required
- Color blind testing (minimum 80% score, updated annually)
Background and Screening Requirements
- Florida AHCA Level 2 background screening including fingerprint-based state and federal criminal history checks, abuse registry review, and screening for disqualifying offenses
- Background check within 6 months of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education verification required; official transcripts or diploma accepted if verification is un-verifiable
- Florida AHCA fingerprinting clearance required prior to start (results must be dated within 30 days of start)
- 2 professional references required from within the last 2 years
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 6 months of start (signed by DO, MD, NP, APRN, or PA)
- Negative QuantiFERON TB test within 6 months (TSPOT and PPD not accepted) or chest X-ray if prior positive
- Annual TB questionnaire
- 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer for Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella (declination accepted)
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination
- 2 Varicella vaccines, positive titer, or declination
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months (instant tests not accepted)
- Annual flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
Orientation and Training Modules (must be completed online prior to start)
- Clinical/Online Orientation Module (1 year expiration)
- Annual Risk Management Course Module (1 year expiration)
- General Compliance & Ethics Training Module (1 year expiration)
- Code of Conduct Module (1 year expiration)
- Comprehensive Emergency Management Education Module (1 year expiration)
- Preventing & Reporting Workplace Harassment Module (1 year expiration)
- ICU Medical modules related to medication administration and equipment
- Stroke and Stroke Core Measures Review Module (1 year expiration)
- Additional nursing-specific modules including IV medication safety, impairment recognition, PPE donning/doffing, hazardous drugs, end of life care, procedural sedation, and others with varying expiration periods (1-3 years)
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
- Passport-style badge photo on solid white background required
- Fit mask test annually with approved mask models (3M 1860 Regular or Small)
- Compliance with data security and privacy policies
- Local candidates considered within a 60-mile radius
