Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Oak Ridge, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Full-time travel/contract Registered Nurse position specializing in Oncology with chemotherapy/infusion experience required.
  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (No nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call required).
  • Float assignment across multiple infusion centers within East Tennessee, including Maryville, Lenoir City, Downtown, Oak Ridge, and others.
  • Holiday time off requests during specified holidays will not be accommodated during the contract.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Oncology experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Chemotherapy certification.
  • Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) certification.
  • Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Infusion experience.

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – must be valid and uploaded prior to assignment start.
  • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) – must be current and valid.
  • Chemotherapy certification – must be current and valid.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) – required for all RN candidates.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam – required.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – required within 12 months prior to start, minimum 80% score.
  • Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) – required annually with minimum 80% pass rate.
  • Color Blind Testing (Ishihara test or equivalent) – required within 12 months prior to start.

Health & Background Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA confirming fitness for duty.
  • Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; T-spots not accepted. If prior positive, clear chest x-ray within 10 years plus questionnaire required.
  • Drug screening within 45 days of start, including a comprehensive panel (amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, fentanyl, marijuana, opiates, etc.) with MRO signature.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required for all starts between September 1 and April 1; no declinations accepted (medical/religious exemptions require documentation).
  • Immunization documentation required for MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, and others as applicable.
  • Background check within 45 days of start, including 7-year SSN trace, alias verification, national and state criminal checks, sex offender registries, and abuse registries. Alias name attestation required if applicable.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license or state ID (color copy, current).
  • Passport-style photo with solid background required for badge.
  • Two supervisory references from the past 3 years required.
  • Employment application with 7-year work history, no unexplained gaps over 30 days, and active nursing license details.
  • Unit-specific skills checklist updated within the last year.
  • Completion of onboarding attestation and review of onboarding documents prior to start.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Orientation offered bi-weekly.
  • Candidates will have the opportunity to speak with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) before accepting or starting the assignment.
  • Floating between multiple infusion centers is mandatory based on staffing needs.
  • No holiday time off during specified holiday periods; requests may be addressed after arrival onsite.
