Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Opportunity

Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45 - 7:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Assignment may include participation in an "Emergency Team" with expectations to stay onsite during emergency events or serve on relief teams.
• Patient ratio experience preferred: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients.
• Experience with TPN, wound care, drains, Foley catheters, and narcotic administration required.
• Epic electronic health record experience required.
• First-time travel nurses are accepted.
• Block scheduling may be considered.
• LTAC experience is not required.

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted; must be current or renewed prior to start.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted; must be current or renewed prior to start.

Required Licenses

• Active Registered Nurse license for Louisiana or a Compact RN license required upon submission and must remain current throughout the contract. Renewal proof must be provided if license expires within 30 days of start.

Required Documents & Compliance

• Valid, current driver's license or government-issued photo ID (color copy required).
• 7-year and lifetime criminal background checks within 90 days of start, updated annually.
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
• Education verification or transcript/diploma if verification cannot be completed.
• Sex offender search within 30 days of start, updated monthly.
• NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start.
• Employment application and updated skills checklist (annual).
• Resume/application with 7 years employment history and explanations for gaps.

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 12 months prior to start confirming good health.
• Fit mask testing (N95) within 1 year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; must be initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance.
• Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap only for ED, Pediatrics, Mother/Baby, NICU)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series)
  • Hepatitis B (positive antibody titer, completed vaccine series, or booster)
  • Varicella (positive IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster)
• Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months of start, updated annually; for positive results, additional documentation required.
• TB questionnaire required if TB test positive.
• Seasonal flu vaccination, declination, or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31).

Additional Notes

• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required; must be updated annually.
• Competency exam specific to specialty required annually (minimum 80% score).
• Color blindness testing required annually for lab staff (not applicable here).
• Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as directed by unit management.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana.
• Minimum of 1 year of Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) experience within the last year.
• Current ACLS certification.
• Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
