Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a high-risk, high-volume Labor & Delivery (L&D) unit with approximately 500-600 deliveries per month.
- Float responsibilities include Postpartum and Antepartum care, with possible float to sister facilities providing Mother/Baby care.
- Patient population includes midwifery clients, private OBs, adult recovery services (substance recovery), and community care clinics.
- Use of EPIC electronic medical records and electronic fetal monitoring is required.
- Staffing follows AWHONN guidelines.
- Unit includes 4 operating rooms (ORs).
- Functions include acting as Baby Nurse during delivery and providing newborn care until transfer to postpartum.
- Must be able to circulate in the OR and provide newborn care including eye care, Vitamin K injections, and newborn assessments.
- Medications commonly administered include Heparin, Insulin, and Magnesium Sulfate.
- Schedule is posted every 6 weeks and designed to meet unit needs, including working every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Pre-approved time off is considered on a case-by-case basis.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year required.
- At least 2 years of experience in a high-acuity, high-pace environment.
- Experience working with high-risk patients.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Newborn care skills including eye care and Vitamin K injections.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO, indicating ability to work with or without accommodation.
- Immunizations and screenings required:
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years (declination accepted).
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer.
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer.
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination.
- Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted).
- COVID-19 vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow infection prevention protocols.
- Fit mask test required for travel nurses (updated annually).
- Respiratory safety clearance required annually for travel nurses.
- 9-panel drug screen within 12 months of start (instant tests acceptable).
Background and Compliance
- Background check within 90 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years; must be updated annually.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
- Education verification required for all candidates; international education requires diploma/transcript or CES report.
- Employment application covering at least last 5 years required.
- Skills checklist required annually for applicable units.
- WA State Patrol Search required within 90 days of start for Washington placements.

- Float policy acknowledgment required; may be required to float to other nearby facilities.
- Schedule includes working every other weekend and holidays as needed.
- Average daily census: 15 patients; 31 beds/rooms on unit.
- Photo for badge not required for this facility.
- EPIC training and competency required; transcripts must be submitted and maintained.
- Annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules required via LMS.
