ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Saint Louis, Missouri
Position Details
- Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
- Location: Saint Louis, Missouri
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 19:00 - 7:30)
- Hours per Week: Up to 48 hours (can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Floating: May float within ICU service line units
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; home address must be at least 75 miles from facility
- On-Call: Not required
- Block Schedule Accommodation: Not available
- Return to Office Restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks (cancelled shifts must be regular shift length)
- First-Time Travelers: Not accepted
Required Experience & Skills
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including ICU experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Required Certifications & Licenses
- License: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Missouri (pending license accepted)
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only
- National Institutes of Health (NIH) Stroke Certification (annual update required)
- Competency Exams:
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia or equivalent) required for new and extension candidates
- Unit-specific competency exams (updated annually)
- Additional Certifications (if applicable):
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) for extended assignments in Burn ICU
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) or Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) if applicable
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start
- Drug Testing: Required within 1 year of start; must include standard drug panels and be valid throughout assignment
- Immunizations & Screenings:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination (Tdap expires every 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer, vaccination, or medical exemption required; no exemptions allowed for Neonatal ICU or Bone Marrow Transplant units
- Seasonal Flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
- Fit Mask Testing: Annual N95 fit test required; facial hair must allow proper fit
- Other Health Documents:
- Hepatitis B declination form required (vaccination not mandatory)
- Hand hygiene, fingernail, dress code policies must be reviewed and acknowledged prior to start
Background & Compliance Checks
- Criminal background check within 6 months of start (7-year search including statewide and nationwide checks)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG quarterly checks
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- State-specific searches and registries as applicable (Missouri and Illinois)
- Fingerprinting required for assignments in Illinois long-term care or rehab units
- Professional license primary source verification (NURSYS for Missouri)
Documentation & Onboarding
- Employment application required and must be uploaded
- Two professional references required (supervisors preferred within last year)
- Unit-specific skills checklist within 1 year of start
- Facility-specific documents to be completed prior to start:
- HIPAA acknowledgement
- Latex allergy questionnaire
- Confidentiality form
- Regulatory compliance education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
- Orientation modules (approximately 16 hours, completed via online platform)
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be able to work night shifts with a 1:2 patient ratio in a high-acuity ICU setting
- No first-time travel nurses accepted for this assignment
- Floating within ICU service line units may be required
- Home address must be at least 75 miles from the facility to qualify as a traveler
- Pending licenses accepted for start, but must be active and verified before assignment extension
- No on-call responsibilities
- Block scheduling is not accommodated
