Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charleston, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit & Schedule

• Unit: 3S Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
• Beds: 8 IMC Beds / 10 Observation Beds (staffed separately)
• Patient Types: Variety including respiratory issues, DKA, arrhythmias, post-op kidney transplant, interventional neurological, telemetry, medical/surgical, renal population
• Shift: Nights (7pm-7am), 3x12 or 4x12 shifts
• Schedule: Weekdays, every other weekend required, float within scope as needed
• Ratios: 3:1 for IMCU / 4:1 for Med/Surg
• Orientation: Every other week on Thursday (2-day orientation: Thursday and Friday)
• Guaranteed Hours: Options for 36 or 48 hours/week

Experience & Requirements

• RN Experience: Minimum 2 years required
• Specialty Experience: Minimum 1 year in IMC/ICU or related specialty
• Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers accepted)
• Licensure: WV or Compact RN License required (pending license accepted but must be active before start)
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (AHA only)
  • ACLS (AHA only)
• Skills Required:

  • Strong IMC and/or ICU experience
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Ventilator management
• No call requirement
• Float within scope to meet facility needs
• Open to block schedule requests (discuss during interview)
• Must comply with 100-mile radius rule (75-99 miles requires facility approval)

Immunizations & Health Requirements

• Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31) unless medically exempt with documentation
• COVID-19 Vaccine: Not required
• Tdap: Required (medical/religious exemptions accepted with approval)
• Negative TB test or Chest X-Ray: Required within 3 months of start
• MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): Proof of immunity or vaccination required
• Hepatitis B: Proof of immunity or vaccination series required
• Varicella: Proof of immunity or vaccination required
• Drug Screen: Must be within 30 days of start, includes standard panel (amphetamines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
• Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, must state candidate is in good health and able to perform job duties
• Annual Fit Mask Testing: Required (N95 3M models accepted) with accommodations available if needed

Documentation & Compliance

• Valid Driver’s License required
• Social Security Card required (or proof of request on file)
• Background Check: 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
• National Sex Offender Registry check within 30 days of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks updated annually
• NURSYS license verification within 30 days of start
• Pass/Fail Testing: EKG, Medication Calculation, Blood Administration tests required for nursing candidates
• Annual Skills Checklist for specialty required
• References: Minimum 1 reference from manager, supervisor, or charge nurse within past year
• Various facility-specific documents and policies must be reviewed, signed, and returned (e.g., dress code, blood administration policy, time and attendance, vaccination exemption forms)

Additional Notes

• No return to facility as traveler within 2 years of last permanent employment
• No Return to Origin (RTO) restrictions, but discuss any requests during interview
• Candidate must complete required inservice training modules prior to start (approx. 4 hours)
• PAPR accommodations available if unable to pass fit testing due to facial hair or face shape
