Pediatric ER Registered Nurse (RN) - Travel/Contract
Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Facility Type: Level I Trauma, Teaching, Children’s Hospital, Short term acute care
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Pediatric Emergency Room RN
- Required Years of Experience: 2 years (must have pediatric experience within an Adult/Pediatric combined ED or Pediatric ED)
- First-time Travelers: Accepted with strong experience
- Weekend Requirement: Travelers will be scheduled for weekends as needed (Saturday and Sunday days; Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights)
- On-call: No
- Floating: Yes, may float to Pediatric admission floors as needed
- Block Scheduling: Not guaranteed
- Locals: No locals within 75 miles accepted
- Pending License: Accepted
- Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours/week; facility may call off 3 times during a 13-week assignment
- COVID Vaccination: Required (religious and medical exemptions accepted with completed exemption form)
Patient Ratios
- Typical ratio: 1:4 (days, nights, weekends)
- Ratios may increase during busy periods
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) - must have prior to signing
- Additional preferred certifications: NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course), CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute), Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB)
- Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam (Pass/Fail testing required with minimum scores)
Special Skills & Experience
- Pediatric triage
- Pediatric dosage calculations
- Phlebotomy
- Starting IVs
- Interpretation of 12 Lead EKG and cardiac dysrhythmias
- Trauma/resuscitation experience preferred
- Experience working in high census periods with admission holds in Peds ED
Travel Experience Requirement
- No explicit prior travel experience required
Licensure & Documentation
- Valid New Mexico RN license required (original license with 3D seal must be brought onsite)
- Pending license accepted
- Must have a valid non-local driver’s license (ID cards not accepted)
- Background checks required including 7-year criminal check, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, fingerprinting (done onsite during orientation)
- Education verification required (diploma or transcript acceptable if 3rd party verification unavailable)
- Drug screen required within 30 days of start (negative result)
- Physical exam required within 1 year prior to start
- Fit mask test required within 1 year of start (specific N95 masks accepted; PAPR accommodation if needed)
- Negative TB or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Rubeola (Measles) - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Mumps - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Rubella - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer (history of disease not accepted)
- Hepatitis B - series, titer, or declination accepted
- Flu vaccine required year-round (exceptions for declinations with facility form)
Additional Requirements
- No RQI certifications accepted for required certifications
- Must complete UNMH-specific orientation and compliance forms
- Must complete Cerner training attestation or test out (for RNs starting with 8/4/25 orientation group)
- Two professional references within three years of hire required
- Work history verification for 3 years required

- No public transportation nearby; candidate must have reliable transportation
Overtime
- OT paid after 48 hours worked (for contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025)
