Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Metairie, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse for a travel/contract position. The role involves caring for critically ill patients with specialized equipment and requires flexibility to float across various ICU and related units.

Required Experience

• Minimum 2 years ICU experience (Cardiovascular ICU experience highly preferred)
• Epic electronic health record experience required
• Prior travel experience not explicitly required

Work Schedule & Environment

• Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:2, occasionally 1:3
• Weekend shifts required: 4 weekends per 4-week schedule
• No on-call required
• Floating required: may float to all ICUs, Emergency Department (ED), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), and occasionally Medical-Surgical/Progressive Care Units (1:4 ratio)
• Nurses perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts

• Veratron Bladder Scanner

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – can be obtained onsite if not already certified
• NIH certification
• Must be able to care for isolation patients, including COVID-19 patients (know your N95 mask size)

Required Licensure

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Louisiana

Additional Requirements

• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total
• Background checks, drug screening, and health documentation as per facility policy
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • Tdap within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as required
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or titers
  • Hepatitis B series or declination
  • Varicella vaccinations or titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination

Summary

This ICU travel nurse role requires a minimum of 2 years ICU experience with strong skills in critical care and familiarity with Epic. The position demands flexibility to float across units, weekend availability, and competency with advanced ICU equipment. Required certifications and licensure must be current, and the nurse must be prepared to care for isolation patients including those with COVID-19.
