Job Description

  • Unit: Medical Surgical (Med Surg), Orthopedic, General Surgery
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7 PM - 7 AM)
  • Schedule: Weekdays with some weekends
  • Required Certifications:
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) - Required
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Preferred
  • Required Skills:
    • IV start
    • Telemetry experience
    • Charge nurse experience
  • License: Kansas State or Compact Nursing License required
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years required
  • Additional Preferences:
    • Experience with orthopedic total hips and knees a plus
    • Rural health experience a plus
  • First-time travelers and local candidates are welcome
  • EMR Experience: TRUBRIDGE (formerly CPSI) EMR experience required by director

Requirements & Compliance

Licensure & Documentation

  • Valid Kansas State or Compact Nursing License
  • Proof of I9 or Attestation
  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
  • Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
  • NURSYS Verification (required for all RNs)
  • Primary Source Verification of State License

Background Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Federal Criminal Felony & Misdemeanor Background Check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
  • HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - ARC, AHA, or DoD approved
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - ARC, AHA, or DoD approved (preferred)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score at least 80%)
  • Unit-specific competency exam (must score at least 80%)
  • Proof of OSHA, HIPAA & Joint Commission annual training (signed attestation or CORE testing acceptable)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 12 months of start, including physician statement clearing ability to work and free of communicable diseases
  • Tdap vaccine required
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year, updated annually
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Proof of immunity by titer or 2 vaccines
  • Hepatitis B: Proof of vaccination series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella: Proof of immunity by titer or 2 vaccines
  • Drug Testing: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Flu Vaccine: Mandatory during flu season (Oct 31 - Mar 31) unless medically exempt
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: No longer required; facility accepts vaccination, declination, or exemption

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Review and sign Confidentiality Agreement, Standards of Performance, and Agency Information Sheet prior to start
  • Complete required training videos and WorkRamp modules before starting
  • Review and complete Restraints Training and Suicide and Behavioral Risk Assessment training prior to arrival
  • First Day Instructions will be provided before start

References & History

  • Two professional clinical references required
  • Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the facility for over 1 year
  • Signed Skills Checklist required and must be updated annually

This is a 13-week travel nursing contract for a Registered Nurse with medical surgical and orthopedic experience in a small rural hospital setting. The position requires night shifts with some weekend work, BCLS certification, and preferably ACLS. Candidates must have at least 2 years of experience, a Kansas or compact nursing license, and TRUBRIDGE EMR experience.
