Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Tele) - Travel/Contract

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Facility Type: Short term acute care hospital
Level: Level II Trauma Center
Beds: 426 staffed beds
Charting System: EPIC
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts of 12 hours (7pm - 7am), every other week (EOW)
Ratio: 1:6
Float: As needed and required


Specialty & Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Telemetry (MS/Tele)
  • Minimum Experience: 2 years in Telemetry nursing (highest required)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • Telemetry certification required (must pass EKG/Tele exam before start)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (check unit description):
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required for ER, preferred for Pediatric ER
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - Required for Psychiatry/Behavioral Health, preferred for ER
    • NIH Stroke Certification (required for most RNs except certain specialties)

Competency Exams & Testing

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, ICU, Progressive Care, PACU, IR/Cath, GI units)

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks (within 30 days of start)
  • Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if internationally educated
  • State license primary source verification (CT license must be applied for within 72 hours of start)
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Employment application with 7-year work history, no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification for last 7 years (attestations not accepted)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella
  • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum (declination accepted)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination preferred

  • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm (except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness
  • AME Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (except Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training (new or updated if gap >6 months)

  • 13 weeks

Summary

This is a night shift Telemetry RN travel contract position requiring a minimum of 2 years of telemetry nursing experience. Candidates must be certified in BLS and ACLS, pass a Telemetry EKG exam, and meet extensive background, health, and competency requirements. The facility uses EPIC for charting and is a Level II Trauma Center with 426 beds. Multiple facility-specific trainings and attestations are required prior to or during orientation.
