Job Description

• 8-hour shifts, variable days/mid shifts
• Pediatric OR nursing role

Requirements

• Licenses & Certifications:

  • California RN License
  • AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years pediatric nursing experience or equivalent
• Preferred Experience:

  • Scrub experience
  • Cardiac circulating experience
  • Ambulatory OR experience
  • CNOR certification
• Travel Experience:

  • First-time travelers are accepted (prior travel experience NOT required)

Certifications & Competencies

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified, required for many clinical areas (check if applicable)
• BLS - AHA certified, required for all clinical positions
• PALS - AHA certified, required for all pediatric units
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - required for certain pediatric areas (L&D, ICN, etc.)
• CHEMO certification - required for oncology and pediatric oncology (if applicable)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - may be required for ER/ED
• EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - required for L&D (if applicable)
• Pass/Fail Telemetry and Medication Tests required on first day for all RNs
• Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) with passing score of 80% or higher, completed within 1 year prior to start and updated annually
• Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam required within 1 year of start

Background & Verification

• 7-year criminal background check including specific Bay Area counties and nationwide checks
• Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript
• Licensure primary source verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification for RN license
• Drug testing (9 panel excluding THC) within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years
• Two supervisory references required, preferably from most recent employment
• Employment application with last 7 years of work history; gaps of 30+ days must be explained
• Unit-specific skills checklist updated annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work
• Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types required), updated annually
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations not accepted unless medically exempt)
• Two negative TB tests required (one within 1 year, one within 3 months of start) or chest X-ray if positive TB history
• Annual TB questionnaire within 30 days of start
• Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:

  • Rubeola (Measles)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
  • Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines; history of disease not accepted)
• Flu seasonal vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season
• COVID-19 vaccination requirements include previous vaccine plus seasonal declination, seasonal vaccine only, or approved medical/religious exemption
• COVID-19 Booster 2 required for all travelers

Facility Specific Requirements

• Completion of UCSF Learning Center Modules prior to starting work on the floor
• Review and initial COVID-19 preparedness, parking, uniform, and other facility-specific documents prior to start
• Completion of UCSF Cyber Security Awareness Training and Quiz annually
• Completion of HIPAA Healthcare Provider Module and Quiz (advanced module required for nursing/allied/interim leadership)
• Emergency contact information must be provided
• Pass/Fail Telemetry and Medication Tests on first day of orientation

• Prior travel experience is NOT required for this position
• Candidates must comply with all background, health, and competency requirements prior to start
• Candidates should be prepared for pass/fail testing on orientation day with multiple retake opportunities
