Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Minimum Years of Experience: 1 year
- Licensure: North Carolina or Compact license in hand
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure)
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training provided during orientation
- Skills: As per job requirements and qualifications (not detailed here)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required; first-timers are welcome
Work Schedule & Conditions
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Yes
- Orientation: Bi-weekly
- Local candidates within 75 miles considered
Health & Safety Requirements
- Flu vaccine is mandatory; no exemptions or declinations accepted
- Physical exam required within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine every 10 years
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive antibody titers required; no exemptions accepted
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination required
- Varicella vaccine or positive titer required; boosters may be needed
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for new candidates starting October through March
- Drug testing: Negative 10-panel within 30 days of start; annual updates not required
- Fit mask (N95 or equivalent) required for certain specialties (Radiology/Cardiology)
Documentation & Compliance
- Background checks including SSN trace, county checks for past 7 years, sex offender, international searches if applicable
- Education verification and transcript/diploma as applicable
- Professional references: 2 required, from employment within last 12 months, at least 1 supervisor
- Employment application with 7 years of work history
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Competency exams and unit-specific competency requirements
- Facility-specific documents and online modules must be completed prior to orientation
- Duke Guest Account setup required prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems
Notes
- Candidates with less than a 30-day gap between previous assignments may have some documentation requirements waived or accepted on file
- Pass/fail testing (EKG/Medication) required for all except RRTs, typically administered during orientation
- Candidate must comply with all facility-specific onboarding and training requirements
This position offers an opportunity for travel nurses with at least 1 year of RN experience, valid NC or Compact license, and required certifications to work in a reputable healthcare system with structured orientation and compliance protocols.
