Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Details
- Position: PICU Registered Nurse
- Schedule: 3x12 hour night shifts
- Float Requirement: Must be willing to float to an additional location (Summa) besides the main Akron campus
- License: Ohio or Compact RN license required and must be in hand
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - PICU
- Minimum Years of Experience: 3 years clinical practice in an acute care setting, with at least 2 years in a similar area to the assignment (PICU or related pediatric critical care)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid government-issued photo ID
- 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, counties lived/worked, statewide, national criminal, sex offender, FACIS Level 3, OFAC, education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks updated annually and after breaks in service >30 days
- Ohio BCI and FBI fingerprinting results required within 1 month of start; must be updated annually
- Education verification or diploma/transcript required
- Physical exam within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccinations)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series proof, or signed declination)
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccinations)
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; new screen required after breaks in service >30 days
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (11/15 - 5/31)
- Two positive professional references, including at least one from the most recent employer
- Employment application documenting 3 years prior work history, including 2 years clinical acute care practice in a similar area
- Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams updated annually
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgement and computer security agreement signed
- HIPAA/confidentiality and privacy training completed and signed
- Facility-specific float policy acknowledgment
Preferred Certifications
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred for PICU
- Pediatric Care After Resuscitation (PCAR) preferred for PICU
Additional Notes
- Must be comfortable with floating between pediatric units including NICU, PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, TCU, ICU, and BICU
- All certifications must be AHA or AAP/AHA approved where applicable
- Fingerprint clearance attestation required for Ohio
This position is ideal for experienced PICU RNs who are flexible with floating and meet the comprehensive credentialing and compliance requirements.
