Job Opportunity: Point of Care Testing (POCT) Coordinator

Location: Houston, Texas
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied-Registry
Contract Length: 25 weeks


Job Description

  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the POCT program.
  • Investigate new methodologies, instrumentation, and systems; recommend improvements.
  • Coordinate evaluation and implementation of appropriate test methodologies and instrumentation.
  • Develop and validate processes and written procedures for new or modified testing processes.
  • Assist with data management system workstation functions, including maintenance, system checks, and follow-up on flags or errors.
  • Work toward standardizing test procedures across the integrated delivery system (IDS) to improve economies of scale and result integration.
  • Review POCT manuals at all sites at least annually.
  • Collaborate with IDS department leadership and Pathology administrative staff to write and implement POCT policies.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively to ensure good working relationships and quality patient care.
  • Prior POCT experience preferred.
  • Typical work hours: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field (laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological science).
  • Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience.
  • Certification required:
    • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or
    • Medical Technologist (MT) certification issued by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
