Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
Location: Brooklyn, New York
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician, the LPN performs nursing duties in the care and treatment of patients on an assigned unit. The role requires tact and judgment in patient care and may include assisting in the supervision of non-professional staff. The LPN is expected to understand and follow nursing department standards, policies, and objectives.
Responsibilities
- Provide proficient nursing care using diagnostic results and patient information to make accurate evaluations.
- Apply knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and diseases in performing the nursing process.
- Perform timely, comprehensive, and accurate patient reevaluations and documentation, especially when significant changes occur.
- Respect patient privacy during evaluations.
- Contribute to individualized care plans with measurable goals and update plans as patient conditions change.
- Monitor patient outcomes and ongoing care needs, including discharge planning and coordination of post-institutional resources.
- Collaborate with Care Managers, physicians, and other clinical disciplines to plan timely interventions for patients and families.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing or equivalent approved program.
- Current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure.
- Minimum of 1 year clinical nursing experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in environments with dust, noise, and other discomforts.
- Physical ability to hear, talk, walk, stand, bend, stretch, and sit for long periods.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients and coworkers.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, radiant, explosive, burn, and chemical hazards.
- May handle hazardous waste/materials and operate/clean equipment.
- May assist in lifting patients onto/out of exam beds or procedure stations.
- Must be trained and knowledgeable about policies related to hazardous waste and materials.
- Duties may involve routine or potential exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
- Knowledge of emergency codes and procedures is required.
