Registered Nurse – Operating Room

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 8-hour variable shifts (0700-1530, 0900-1730, 1100-1930)
Hours per Week: 40 hours guaranteed

Job Overview

• Work primarily on the General Operating Room team with 21 ORs covering multiple specialties.
• Average caseload of 40-60 cases per day (approx. 45 cases).
• Float to nearby facilities may be required.
• On-call responsibilities include 6-8 weeknights and 1-2 weekend nights per contract, with a 30-minute response time to be ready in the OR. Call-back minimum is 2 hours.
• Weekend and holiday call rotation applies; weekends are call only.
• Must have own vehicle due to on-call requirements (no reliance on rideshare services).
• Charting system: Epic preferred.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin
• Minimum 5 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year
• Completion of at least one travel assignment
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Experience working with Level 2 Trauma patients
• Experience in a larger facility with comparable OR size of 20 or more rooms

Desired Skills and Attributes

• Experience with General Surgery, Gynecology, Urology, Plastics, ENT, and GI cases is a plus (not all required).
• Flexibility and willingness to perform downtime tasks.
• Strong work ethic, resilience, adaptability to change, and good social skills.
• Scrub color is flexible (any color allowed).

Additional Information

• Contractors must live outside a 50-mile radius of the primary facility.
• Contract includes eligibility for 36 hours of low census unbillable hours; travelers may be on call during these hours and will receive call-back pay if called in.
• Guaranteed hours per week except during holidays when the unit may be closed.
• During flu season, travelers declining flu and COVID vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action.
