Registered Nurse – Admission and Transfer

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 10 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts (Day or Night) with variable start times (7:00 AM, 11:00 AM, 1:00 PM, 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours guaranteed
Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and every other holiday required
On Call/Call Back: May be placed on call during low census; minimum 2-hour call back pay if called in

Job Description

• Work in the Admission and Transfer Center coordinating patient admissions and transfers across multiple hospitals.
• Facilitate consults and transfers for patient placement, ensuring optimal patient flow.
• Communicate effectively with sending and receiving facilities, physicians, and ambulance services.
• Follow protocols and regulatory requirements including EMTALA.
• Use critical thinking to triage and recommend appropriate patient placement based on acuity and facility capabilities.
• Document and track all patient transfers accurately.
• Collaborate with bed planning teams to manage bed availability and patient flow.
• Provide expert remote triage using ICU or Emergency Department experience.
• Advocate for priority admissions or transfers when necessary.
• Maintain professional appearance; scrub colors or business casual attire accepted.
• Comply with mandatory flu and COVID vaccination mask policy during flu season.

Required Qualifications

• Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license
• Current AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Minimum 5 years ICU or Emergency Room experience (5 years preferred)
• Trauma Level II experience required
• Transfer Call Center experience highly preferred
• EPIC charting experience required
• Must be located outside a 50-mile radius of the facility at the time of contract start

Additional Information

• Contract includes eligibility for 36 hours of low census unbillable hours; travelers may be placed on call during these hours.
• Orientation week hours may vary; guaranteed hours apply except when unit is closed for holidays.
• Two RNs work night shifts; 2-4 RNs work day shifts.
