ICU Nurse Opportunity - Chandler, Arizona

Position Overview

• Requires 3 full years of recent ICU experience (no exceptions).
• Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular (CV) ICU.
• Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and Arizona or compact nursing license.
• TNCC certification preferred.
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam (max 2 attempts) 24-48 hours prior to acceptance.
• Pass/fail Simulation Lab on Day 1 of orientation (study guides provided).
• Flexibility required; may float between multiple ICU units.
• Typically scheduled for 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule.
• Self-scheduling allowed but manager may balance shifts.
• No additional call or standby shifts required.
• May be low censused up to 3 times during contract.
• Scrub color: Navy.
• Orientation: 1-2 days, unit-specific.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks.

Units & Patient Population

Surgical ICU - Trauma Neuro Surgery

• 32 beds.
• Nurse:Patient ratio: 1:2 or 1:1.
• Level 1 trauma center.
• Common diagnoses: trauma (falls, gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, MVAs), ex-lap, craniotomy, specialty neuro-surgery, CVA, post-TPA, COVID, sepsis, ARDS.
• Charge nurse role available (does not take patients).
• No nurse aides on unit; sitters and Health Unit Secretary available.
• Hospitalist or intensivist in-house 24/7.
• Respiratory therapist (RT) coverage 24/7.
• Ventilator/RT equipment includes Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60 BiPAP, Airvo.
• No telemetry/monitor techs; RNs interpret their own cardiac strips (GE monitors).
• RNs required to titrate drips.

Medical ICU - Medical Cardiac + Overflow

• 36 medical cardiac beds + 12 overflow beds.
• Nurse:Patient ratio: 1:2 or 1:1.
• Common diagnoses: sepsis, COVID, DKA, ARDS, vascular surgeries, CRRT (not required).
• CVICU cases: on/off pump CABG, valve surgeries, post-cath, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO, Tandem Heart, esophagectomies.
• Charge nurse role available (does not take patients).
• No nurse aides on unit; sitters and Health Unit Secretary available.
• Hospitalist or intensivist in-house 24/7.
• RT coverage 24/7 with same equipment as Surgical ICU.
• No telemetry/monitor techs; RNs interpret their own cardiac strips (GE monitors).
• RNs required to titrate drips.

Common Drips Titrated

• Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin.

Additional Information

• Floating between three ICUs expected: Surgical ICU, Medical Cardiac ICU, and overflow ICU.
• No nurse aides on units; sitters and Health Unit Secretary support available.
• First-time travelers welcome if they meet experience requirements.
• Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any associated facilities within the past year.
• Weekend requirements: every other weekend typically, but may require 3 weekends per month if unit is busy.
• Night shift weekends are Friday-Saturday; day shift weekends are Saturday-Sunday.
• May have one holiday off during assignment.

This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses with strong neuro or cardiovascular ICU backgrounds seeking a flexible, fast-paced Level 1 trauma center environment with diverse patient populations and advanced critical care technology.
