Registered Nurse – Neuro ICU
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Overview
- Department: Neuro ICU
- Unit Size: 18 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Rotating every other holiday
- Orientation: 20 hours (one 8-hour shift and one 12-hour shift)
- Floating: Travelers float first; may float to intermediate (1:3 ratio) or general floors (1:4 ratio)
Patient Population & Care
- Common Diagnoses: Ventriculostomy patients, strokes (with/without tPA), post-craniectomy care
- Typical Procedures/Skills: Ventriculostomy, NIH Stroke Scale Certification, ventilator management, arterial and central lines, tPA administration, acute stroke management
- Drip Management: RNs are required to titrate drips as ordered by physicians; variety of titratable drips used
- Respiratory Equipment: RNs troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow devices
- Telemetry: Nurses read and interpret telemetry strips; tele tech staffed every shift
Staffing & Support
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift; may take patient assignments if staffing is limited
- House Supervisor: Available 24/7
- Nurse Aides/Patient Care Techs: Present with a ratio of 9:1
Required Certifications & Licensure
- Active Illinois RN license or proof of application initiation required
- BLS (AHA)
- ACLS
Additional Information
- Drug-Free Workplace: Negative drug screen required for all panels
- Local candidates within 50 miles considered for local placement
- Non-billable orientation hours: 12 hours (guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation)
