Unit Details
- 56 beds (private and semi-private)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- 1:4-5 (07:00-23:00)
- 1:5-6 (23:00-07:30)
- Patient types: Acute Care General Medicine including cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, behavioral health & addictions
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license (or application in process)
- BLS (AHA) certification
Experience & Skills Required
- Central lines, tracheostomies, chest tubes experience required
- EPIC electronic health record experience preferred
- Prior travel experience on a MedSurg floor preferred
- Candidates with Level I trauma center experience considered without travel experience if EPIC experience is present
Clinical & Unit Information
- RNs are not required to titrate drips
- Common drips: Heparin, Lasix
- Charge nurse present on each floor but does not take patient assignments
- Patient care technicians assist with vital signs, accu-checks, bladder scans, and ADLs; PCT ratio approximately 1:8-10
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes BiPAP/CPAP for sleep apnea, inhalers, suctioning
- Telemetry monitored remotely; RNs can view strips on pack or computer (Phillips monitors)
Scheduling & Work Requirements
- Shifts: 3x 12-hour shifts (7:00-19:30)
- Scheduling: API electronic schedule with self-scheduling/block scheduling allowed
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (Sat/Sun for days, Fri/Sat for nights)
- Holiday requirement: Varies
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating: Rotation to other acute care general medicine areas (nephrology, neuro, ortho, oncology)
Orientation & Other Notes
- Unit-specific orientation: 2-3 shifts
- Dress code: Any color professional scrubs; no visible tattoos or piercings except ears
- Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required
Prior Travel Experience Requirement
- Preferred but not required; candidates with Level I trauma center experience may be considered without prior travel experience if EPIC experience is present
Summary of Required Qualifications
- Illinois RN license (active or in process)
- BLS certification
- Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, chest tubes
- EPIC experience preferred
- Prior travel experience preferred but not mandatory if trauma center experience present
