Job Summary
Seeking a Med/Surg Registered Nurse for a travel assignment in a hospital setting. The unit cares for patients with a variety of medical and surgical diagnoses including orthopedic surgeries, urology procedures, general surgeries, gynecological overflow, medical overflow (COPD, behavioral health, sepsis, infections).
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience
- BLS Certification required
- EKG certification required
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips
- Willingness to take students and potentially precept new travelers
Unit Details
- Nurse to patient ratio: typically 1:5, occasionally 1:6
- Charge Nurse present on each shift (rarely takes patients)
- Day shift includes an ADT nurse for admissions, discharges, and tasking
- Patient care techs/nurse aides available at a ratio of 1:8
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP (managed by RT), and high flow oxygen
- Telemetry monitoring is virtual; RNs read and interpret their own strips
- Telemetry system transitioning from SpaceLab to Philips
Schedule & Orientation
- 12-hour shifts, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
- Scheduling managed by unit scheduler; no block scheduling
- Weekend requirement: 5 weekend shifts every 6 weeks
- Holiday shifts required as needed
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating between MedSurg 5, MedSurg 6, a 9-bed overflow unit, and similar units within the hospital system (including nearby facilities)
- Possible float to ER for patient holds or 1:1 assignments
- Orientation includes 3 days general orientation with EPIC training and educator meetings, plus 2 shifts on unit with a preceptor
- Online modules to be completed prior to assignment start
Additional Information
- Nurses are not required to titrate drips
- Common drips include heparin, PCAs, and morphine
- Dress code: any clean, professional scrub color
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Contract Length
- 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

- Candidates must reside outside a 50-mile radius of the facility to be eligible for this travel assignment.
