Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiovascular Unit (CVU)

Location: Petoskey, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on the Cardiovascular Unit (CVU), which cares for over 4,000 cardiology patients annually.
  • Patient care includes post-op open heart surgery (18-24 hours post-op), congestive heart failure, electrophysiology studies, and procedures such as PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip, and bi-ventricular pacemakers.
  • Participate in clinical trials managed by the NISUS research department.
  • The CVU has received a Silver level Beacon Award and was redesigned by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN).
  • The unit is recognized for top performance in care, efficiency, and community value.

Important Policies

  • Strict 3-strike attendance policy:
    • More than 20 minutes late or absent from a scheduled shift 3 times results in immediate termination.
    • Exceptions considered for communicable disease or hospitalization with supporting evidence.
    • Policy effective starting 6/1/2024.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1+ year of RN experience (floating experience not accepted).
  • Comfort with EKG required.
  • Preferred experience: Neuro, CVICU, Trauma, managing ventilators, CRRT, and balloon pumps.
  • Must be willing to float to similar units.
  • Michigan RN license required and must be active at time of submission.
  • Provide license verification through LARA and Nursys.
  • Skills checklist completed within one year required for RN specialties.
  • Certifications required:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)

  • 202-bed regional hospital serving 22 counties in northern Lower Michigan and eastern Upper Peninsula.
  • Over 230 physicians covering nearly all medical and surgical specialties.
  • Emphasis on cardiology, cancer, orthopedics, and neurosciences.
  • Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system: Cerner.
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.

Additional Notes

  • Full-time employees of the facility are not eligible for contract hire within six months of employment.
  • Local traveler policy applies for those living within 35 miles of the facility.
