Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Specialty: Neurosurgery Nursing
  • Must have experience with stereotactic neurosurgical cases, neuro spine cases, and craniotomy cases with tumor resections
  • Scrub experience required
  • Level 1 Trauma experience preferred
  • Call included: one 8-hour on-call shift per week as needed
  • Possible weekend rotations
  • Shift: 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, 4 days a week (4x10 schedule)
  • Epic experience: If more than 1 year, no instructor-led class needed; if less than 1 year, specific start dates required

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse with Neurosurgery experience
  • Required years of experience: At least 1 year (implied by Epic experience requirement and specialty focus)

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (AHA only)
  • BLS (AHA only)

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming fitness for duty
  • N95 mask fit testing within 1 year (not required for some non-clinical roles)
  • TDAP vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility guidelines
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Dec 1 – Apr 30)

Competency Exams

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color blind testing (Ishihara 14 plate)
  • Unit-specific competency exams updated every 3 years
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam for applicable units
  • Core Parts I, II, III and OSHA mandatory training updated annually

Additional Requirements

  • Minimum 1 professional reference from management and 1 employment verification covering 1 year of experience within the past 2 years
  • Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required
  • Badge photo with plain white background required 2 weeks prior to start
  • Facility-specific policies (e.g., fingernail policy) must be signed prior to start
