Unit & Patient Population

• Mixed procedural unit supporting Cardiac Cath, Electrophysiology (EP), and Interventional Radiology (IR)
• Shared prep and recovery area
• No weekend shifts required
• Adult patient population
• Average daily census: 7 patients
• Day shift nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4
• Unit has 2 rooms and 12 beds
• Patient diagnoses primarily include arrhythmias

Schedule & Shift Details

• Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (3×12s)
• Shift hours: 6:00 AM – 6:30 PM (11.5 hours with a 30-minute lunch)
• No rotating shifts
• Floating to Cath Prep/Recovery required
• No call required

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (higher years of experience not indicated)
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Experience with 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratios
• EPIC documentation experience required
• Teaching hospital experience preferred
• Community hospital experience preferred

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)

Clinical Skills & Competencies

• Pre- and post-procedure care in EP Lab setting
• Medication competencies including:

  • Antiarrhythmics
  • Antihypertensives
  • Emergency medications
  • IV vasopressors
  • Procedural sedation administration and monitoring
  • Reversal agents
  • Thrombolytics
• IV therapy skills:

  • Blood product administration
  • Implanted ports care and maintenance
  • IV infusion pumps
  • PICC line care and maintenance
  • Starting and maintaining IVs
• Professional knowledge and skills:

  • ACT (Activated Clotting Time)
  • Cardioversion
  • Circulate procedures
  • End-tidal CO2 monitoring
  • Infection prevention
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Isolation precautions
  • Monitoring procedural sedation
  • Obtaining 12 Lead EKG/ECG
  • Pressure ulcer assessment and prevention
  • Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale
  • Sheath removal and monitoring
  • Topical hemostasis (D-Stat, Chito-Seal, Syvek Patch)
  • Vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose)

Orientation & Onboarding

• Orientation duration: 11.5 hours
• Scrubs provided
• First-time travelers accepted

Provider Support & Coverage

• Interpretation services available
• Pharmacy support
• Rapid response teams
• Provider coverage includes NP or PA and cardiologist (not in-house 24/7)

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Criminal background check within 30 days of start (7-year search including Social Security trace, New York State search, county/statewide searches, FACIS Level 3, sex offender database, nationwide and international searches if applicable)
• Education verification required (must verify nursing degree for RNs)
• SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Foreign equivalency evaluation if educated outside the US and degree verification is needed
• NY State license hard copy required (green border document, signed by licensee)
• Online license verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification required
• Drug screen (Aya standard 9-panel) required within 1 year of start (not required for subcontractors)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
• Fit mask (N95) fit test within 1 year of start, updated annually
• TDAP vaccine within 10 years of start
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start
• Titers required for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination)
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 1
• Harassment prevention training certificate (New York specific) required
• Various competency exams required including medication test/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam, core parts I-III, OSHA mandatory training, and color blind testing (all completed on Relias platform)
• Pass/fail dysrhythmia EKG exam required within 72 hours of signing contract (with remediation process)
• References: 2 manager/supervisor references required (charge nurse references generally not accepted unless approved)
• Employment application, skills checklist, and work history verification required

• Photo for badge required within 72 hours of contract signing (specific photo guidelines apply)
