Job Description

• Patient Population: Adult patients with acute medical conditions including cardiac, neurological, renal, infectious disease, pulmonary, and more
• Role: Coordination of direct patient care and education

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
• NIHSS (NIH Stroke Certification) – Required for ICU, PCU, ED, and Float Pool; must be updated annually

Licensure

• Valid Virginia or Compact State Nursing License required

Work Environment

• Acute Care Hospital with 255 staffed beds
• Charting system: Meditech
• Scrub color: Black or Caribbean blue
• Free parking available in unrestricted spaces
• Local radius rule: Permanent address must be 50+ miles from the facility (locals not accepted)

Background and Health Requirements

• 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
• Virginia State Police background check and fingerprinting (for Behavioral Health candidates)
• Physical exam within 1 year of start, renewed annually
• Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (including marijuana; zero tolerance policy)
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tdap vaccine within past 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B – positive titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Annual flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)

Additional Requirements

• 2 professional references

• Skills checklist updated annually
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
• Completion of facility-specific documents and policies prior to start (e.g., confidentiality agreement, standards of appearance, social media policy, etc.)

Scheduling

• Weekend coverage every other Saturday
• Sundays off

Summary

This is a travel contract RN position in a progressive care/telemetry unit caring for adult patients with diverse acute medical conditions. The role requires at least 1 year of RN experience, current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications, and a valid Virginia or Compact nursing license.
