Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Richmond, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work in a comprehensive liver care ICU.
- ICU experience required.
- Transplant experience highly preferred.
- Local candidates allowed at the same rate.
Required Qualifications
- Discipline: Registered Nurse (RN)
- License: Permanent Virginia RN license required (temporary licenses not accepted).
- Experience:
- ICU experience required.
- Transplant experience highly preferred.
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required.
Certifications
- ACLS (AHA only)
- BLS (AHA only)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (refer to unit job descriptions):
- PALS
- NRP
- TNCC
- NIH Stroke Certification (as applicable)
- Certifications expiring within 1 month of contract start will not be accepted. No onsite renewals offered; renewals must be scheduled by the agency.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 60 days of start, including:
- All states lived/worked in past 7 years
- State of permanent residence
- VA Statewide Repository Search
- SS Trace
- All counties lived/worked in past 7 years
- Nationwide check
- FACIS Level 3
- Sex Offender Registry
- Education verification (degree from NLN or CCNE accredited program required)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Fingerprinting required for certain units (Pediatrics, NICU, Psych, etc.) with specific submission and tracking instructions.
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs.
Health and Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands.
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine or declination required.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per guidelines (Q-gold/T-spot or two PPDs).
- TB questionnaire required annually.
- Titers required for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella; boosters required if low titer.
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination required.
- Drug testing within 60 days of start (9-panel minimum, instant screens not accepted).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required for 2025-26 season.
Competencies and Other Requirements
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable.
- Color blind testing required.
- Abuse reporting competency required (covering physical/sexual abuse, domestic violence, neglect/exploitation).
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules and exams (e.g., Pharmacology Exam, BKAT).
- Completion of confidentiality agreements and other facility-specific documents prior to start.
Documentation and History
- Two professional references required.
- Complete application/resume required.
- Skills checklist must be updated annually.
- Performance evaluations completed at end of assignment (not required prior to start).
Additional Notes
- Proof of primary residence must match compact licensure; otherwise, candidate cannot work the assignment.
- Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
- Candidates must complete Virginia Central Registry (CPS) submission process within 48 hours of contract signing; may start with results pending if submission proof is on file.
- Fingerprinting and CPS search results can pend at time of start but must have proof of submission on file.
