Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Sacramento, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Level I Trauma Center Emergency Room. This is a travel/contract position in a high-volume, fast-paced environment with diverse patient populations including adult and pediatric trauma, homeless, psychiatric, sepsis, and stroke cases.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of ER experience preferred for first-time travelers.
- 1 year of experience required overall.
- Trauma Level I experience is required and highly preferred for success in this role.
Specialty & Skills
- Registered Nurse (RN) in Emergency Room (ER)
- Experience in Level I Trauma Center settings
- Skilled in starting and maintaining IVs
- Comfortable with trauma, rapid care, and ICU patients
- Experience with adult and pediatric trauma, psych holds, sepsis, and stroke patients
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) preferred
- BSN preferred but not required
Patient Care Environment
- Trauma Level I adult and pediatric patients
- High volume pediatric visits (~1000/month) with 18-20% admissions
- Psych holding areas and rapid care units
- No resuscitation room or triage for travelers
- Magnet facility designation
- Care for patients with PCA pumps (staff manage pumps)
- COVID designated hallway patients in ICU area
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid RN license for California
- Background checks including criminal, SSN trace, sex offender, and nationwide criminal search within 30 days of start
- Physical exam cleared within one year
- Fit testing for N95 masks within one year
- Immunizations and titers: TDAP, TB screening, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start
- Completion of unit-specific competency exams and pharmacology test
- Completion of UC Davis Health orientation and compliance modules prior to start
- Signed confidentiality and HIPAA training confirmation
- References: Two clinical references required, including one from recent employer
Prior Travel Experience
- Prior travel experience not explicitly required; first-time travelers with 2+ years ER experience are accepted
Additional Notes
- RTO (Return to Office) documentation must be submitted upfront
- Badge pickup required prior to orientation (plan accordingly)
- Must complete all required training modules before start date unless extenuating circumstances apply
