Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Night (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 19:00 - 7:30)
- Hours per Week: 48 hours
- Patient Ratios: Targeted 1:4, can be up to 1:5-6
- Floating:
- First to float at employer’s discretion within specialty clusters.
- May float between multiple nearby campuses (within 15 miles).
- Weekend/Holiday Availability: Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays.
- Overtime: Paid after 48 hours worked in a week.
- Cancellation Policy: Employer may cancel up to 2 shifts per 13-week contract with 2 weeks’ notice without penalty.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1.5 years of step down nursing experience, with step down experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with stable chronic ventilators
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Required Assessments and Documentation
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology test within 2 years
- Unit-specific competency exam within 2 years
- Color Blind Testing (lab units only)
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check including SSN trace, national and county checks, sex offender registry
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
- Health Requirements:
- Physical exam within 2 years indicating fitness to work and free of communicable diseases
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (annual update if past positive)
- Immunizations or immunity attestation for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination series, immune titer, or declination)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- Drug screening: Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen within 12 months, including marijuana panel
- Respiratory safety clearance within 1 year, renewed annually
- Other Required Documents:
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s license or State ID)
- E-Verify compliance
- Candidate agreement fully completed prior to documentation due date
- Medical questionnaire for respiratory protection prior to orientation
- Skills checklist updated within 1 year
- Two professional references within 2 years (one must be a manager/supervisor/charge RN) or 1-year work history verification if references unavailable
- Current resume/application
Additional Notes
- Travelers are not eligible for employer employee incentives.
- Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted with initial application; no RTO added after offer. Approval is at manager’s discretion.
- Fingerprinting is not required for this assignment.
- Certifications expiring within one week of start date must be renewed prior to assignment start.
- Candidates must have correct legal name spelling on all certifications and licenses.
This position is ideal for experienced step down RNs with EPIC experience, ventilator skills, and flexibility to float and work nights with a high patient acuity. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
